More COVID-19 vaccine opportunities coming March 31 and April 6 to Polk County

More opportunities to be vaccinated against COVID-19 are coming March 31 and April 6 to Polk County.

Starting Wednesday, March 31, the Polk County Vaccine Coalition will begin opening appointments for all COVID-19 vaccine groups at The Meeting Place–Polk County Senior Center at 75 Carmel Lane in Columbus. This clinic will offer the Moderna vaccine only.

While all groups will be open, the coalition is continuing to prioritize appointment slots through the online interest survey by prioritizing high-risk individuals and those in marginalized communities, followed by the general community.

On April 6, an all-day COVID-19 vaccination event also will be held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, focusing first on historically marginalized and underserved populations such as the Latinx communities, Hispanic community and African-American community. The coalition  will work off of the interest survey and will connect with community support partners such as True Ridge, churches and other nonprofits. At the April 6 event, the Pfizer vaccine will be available for anyone age 16 or older in the region.

People needing transportation to the vaccine clinics can call (828) 894-8203 for a ride.
