Gov. Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff in tribute to the late Congressman Walter Jones.
Rep. Jones, who served eastern North Carolina’s 3rd District in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than 20 years, died Sunday. He will be funeralized Thursday, Feb. 14 and flags will remain lowered through sunset that day.
In a statement released Sunday, Gov. Cooper said, “I am grateful for the life and service of my longtime friend Congressman Walter Jones Jr. He was a public servant who was true to his convictions and who will be missed.”
