Polk County has earned a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
The honor was announced during Monday’s Board of Commissioners regularly scheduled meeting in the Womack Building in Columbus.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
Only 55 counties in North Carolina earned the Certificate of Achievement this year.
Finance Director Sandra Hughes also received an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for her efforts.
