Polk County Local Government lowering U.S., N.C. flags on Sept. 11 for Patriot Day

Polk County Local Government will lower its United States and North Carolina flags on Wednesday, Sept. 11 for Patriot Day.

Gov. Roy Cooper has ordered that all U.S. and N.C. flags at state facilities be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sept. 11 for Patriot Day, which also is known as the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Patriot Day honors the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy, their families and the heroic sacrifices of first responders. Citizens are encouraged to join in remembering the thousands of innocent lives lost during the most deadly attack on United States soil.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions also are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same duration of time.
