Polk County Emergency Management issues weather update on Sept. 16

Polk County Emergency Management has issued the following updates at 10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 16 about local conditions relating to Tropical Storm Florence:

PRECIPITATION

  • 1-2 inches of rain has already fallen with 3-4 more inches expected Sunday
  • Roads are becoming hazardous due to standing water
  • Wind speeds are 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph
  • Three people are staying in the emergency shelter at Polk County Middle School
  • Polk County remains under a wind advisory. Western Polk County is under a flash flood warning until 5:15 p.m. while the remainder of the county is under a flash flood watch.

WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES AT TRYON INTERNATIONAL EQUESTRIAN CENTER

  • WEG Competition scheduled for Sunday has been rescheduled for Monday
  • Small crew on site at the Tryon International Equestrian Center for the weather event

EMERGENCY OPTIONS AVAILABLE
Polk County has opened an emergency shelter at Polk County Middle School at 321 Wolverine Trail in Mill Spring. Call 211 for updated shelter information concerning people and their animals.
