Polk County to open emergency shelter on Saturday, Sept. 15 in preparation for Hurricane Florence

Polk County will open an emergency shelter beginning at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15 at Polk County Middle School at 321 Wolverine Trail in Mill Spring.

With heavy rain bands from Hurricane Florence expected to move into Polk County on Sunday, the shelter will open to provide residents with a spot to move away from flood-prone areas.

Residents are urged to call 211 for updated shelter information for themselves and their animals. To receive text alerts for general emergency management information, residents can text POLKNC to 888-777.
