As local farmers prepare their harvests of fruits and vegetables in the coming weeks and months, Polk County Local Government recently announced two part-time positions that will help make markets in Saluda and Columbus more successful.
The Saluda Tailgate Market is searching for the position of Saluda Market Manager, who will support the market on Friday evenings during the months of June through October. The job requires the Market Manager to be present on market days for setup, the hours of operation, and to assist with the market’s breakdown. The Market Manager will also be responsible for vendor communications, logistics and site management; marketing and budget management; will work in the offseason to prepare for the following year’s Tailgate Market; and other duties.
There are also plans to hire a Market Assistant for the Columbus Farmers Market. This assistant is needed on Saturdays between the months of May and October and will need to be present on market days for setup and break down, provide customers information about local and regional tourism interests, support and interact with the market’s vendors, and other duties.
Polk County also seeks a Part-time Custodian to perform a variety of housekeeping duties in offices and buildings. Work includes cleaning and servicing rooms, halls and stairways; sweeping, mopping and scrubbing floors and vacuuming carpets; emptying trash cans; and other duties.
County HR Representatives will be at the Columbus Farmers Market from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 15 if you would like to come out and get more information on any of these opportunities.
