As the country continues to honor the life of 41st U.S. President George H.W. Bush, all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities shall remain at half staff until sunrise on Dec. 31.
During this time, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day also will be observed on Friday, Dec. 7. This year’s National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day marks 77 years since the Japanese military’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. More than 2,400 U.S. citizens were killed and more than 1,100 were injured in the attack on Dec. 7, 1941, which resulted in the United States entering World War II.
