The Polk County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting on Monday, May 13, where the commissioners received the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year from County Manager Marche Pittman.

This is only the first step in the annual budget process. If you want to learn more, read this post about the process. The budget is balanced in accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act.

The proposed budget doesn’t include a tax-rate increase for general operations of Polk County Government.

The Fire and Rescue Advisory Committee (also known as FRAC) also submitted its recommendations to the Commissioners. In its report there were several proposed increases, which could effect taxes, that will be taken into consideration by the Commissioners.

There will be a public hearing regarding the budget at 5 p.m. on June 3 and the budget will be on the agenda for adoption during the Polk County Board of Commissioners’ regularly scheduled meeting at 5 p.m. on June 17.

If approved, the budget will go into effect July 1. The total proposed budget for the county is $50,894,119.
