Improvements, thanks to a generous donation, have been made inside the Columbus Library and are ready to be admired.

The Marye Jane Priddy Children’s Library will be celebrated beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. The Columbus Library is located at 1289 West Mills Street.

The children’s library is being named after Ms. Priddy, a former educator whose gift made the renovation possible. Ms. Priddy died on March 13, 2020, at the age of 78. She was a lifelong educator, teaching kindergarten through fourth grade during her career. She taught in Connecticut for 30 years, Georgia for three years, Virginia for two years and finished her career in Tryon as a substitute teacher in the public school system.

The celebration will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, special storytime, refreshments, and party favors. The first 25 families to visit will receive a free copy of Shel Silverstein’s classic The Giving Tree, which was one of Ms. Priddy’s favorites.

Renovation of the space in the Columbus Library includes new carpet, furniture and décor as well as the new addition of museum quality, hands-on literacy learning tools spread throughout the space and including the children’s area at Saluda Library.
