The Polk County Board of Commissioners have begun work on the budget for 2022-2023.

The proposed budget by the County Manager does not include a tax increase for the operations of the County. However, there are three fire department increases being considered by the Board of Commissioners (Green Creek, Tryon, and Saluda) that were recommended by the Fire and Rescue Advisory Board (FRAC).

The proposed budget was presented to the Commissioners on May 9 and the Board held a work session on May 16. The final budget work session will be held at 5 p.m. on June 6 and will be followed by a public hearing where citizen comments on the proposed budget will be heard. The Board’s regular meeting will follow, where a vote on the proposed budget will most likely occur.

These meetings will be held in the R. Jay Foster Hall of Justice (Womack Building, 40 Courthouse Street) in Columbus.
