Commissioners make proclamation as 9/11 anniversary draws near

Most Americans can remember exactly where they were when they heard the news about the attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001 in New York City and Washington, D.C.

As we near the 22nd anniversary of those deadly terrorist events, the Polk County Board of Commissioners have proclaimed that Monday, September 11, be the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance in Polk County.

In its proclamation, the Board of Commissioners, along with the Polk County Memorial VFW Post #9116 and Auxiliary, urged citizens pause for a moment of remembrance at 1 p.m., “to recognize the heroism of firefighters, rescue and law enforcement personnel, military service members, and the many volunteers who responded to these tragic events with courage, selfless compassion, determination and skill; and to remember the victims, families, and innocent lives lost as a result of the tragic events on September 11, 2001.”
