The Polk County Board of Commissioners were presented with a framed copy of the Civil Rights Amendments during its May 15 meeting.
The large copy of the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 24th amendments to the U.S. Constitution was presented by Dr. David Streater and Ron Lewis, who are members of the Foundation Forward organization.
The Commissioners accepted this gracious gift and Board Chairman Tommy Melton said that this framed copy of the Civil Rights Amendments would be displayed in public buildings and schools in Polk County.
This isn’t the first time that Foundation Forward has presented the county with copies of historically significant documents. In 2019 Foundation Forward presented the Board with the Charters of Freedom setting, which includes the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. These Charters of Freedom can be viewed at Veterans Park in Columbus and you can learn more about that by clicking here.
