In 1986 President Ronald Reagan designated February to be celebrated as National Community College Month. Sometime later, the exact date isn’t known, the month was switched to April.

At a recent Polk County Board of Commissioners meeting, the board approved a resolution that April would be Isothermal Community College Month in Polk County.

The college, which is one of more than 1,300 community and technical colleges in the U.S., has been a staple of Rutherford and Polk counties for many years. The college has a continuing education branch in Polk County where a variety of programs and classes are offered.

In the resolution, the Commissioners noted that this distinction is made “in recognition of the important contribution of community and technical colleges to our total educational system.”

Isothermal Community College is known for providing technical training, workforce development programs, and college transfer opportunities in more than 90 areas of study, along with cultural opportunities through Continuing Education, the Foundation Performing Arts and Conference Center, and WNCW 88.7 FM.
