County officials participate in legislative breakfast

Polk County officials recently took part in the 7th annual legislative breakfast at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

The event was a chance for attendees to ask questions to a panel and was hosted by the Foothills Regional Commission, which is a local council of government serving Cleveland, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford Counties. The membership of the Commission consists of the local governments within the region.

FRC serves its members and their citizens by fostering regional collaboration and providing professional and technical expertise.  More than 150 local leaders, community partners, and state legislators, including a contingent from Polk County, discussed issues impacting the region.  Infrastructure projects, economic development, federal highway priorities, substance use, work force housing, and Medicaid expansion were the key topics of discussion.

The panel included N.C. Speaker of the House Tim Moore, Senator Ted Alexander, Senator Warren Daniel, Senator Tim Moffitt, Representative Kelly Hastings and Representative Jake Johnson.  Other notable attendees included Drew Christy, Director for Governor Cooper’s Western Office; Robin Ramsey, Regional Representative for U.S. Senator Thom Tillis; Kye Laughter, Regional Representative for U.S. Senator Ted Budd; Brett Keeter, District Director for Congressman Patrick McHenry; and Roger Kumpf, Regional Director for Congressman Patrick McHenry.
