On the evening of Monday, November 7, the Polk County Courthouse and the entryway into the Womack Building were bathed in green light as part of Operation Green Light.

This new national collaborative initiative of the National Association of Counties (NACo) began as a way to support military veterans, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.

Local buildings will have this green highlight from Nov. 7-13.

Veterans Day is on Friday, November 11, and all Polk County offices will be closed on that day. The landfill will also be closed that day, but will be opened for its regular hours on Saturday.

The Polk County Board of Commissioners voted at a recent meeting to take part in Operation Green Light to honor the individuals who have paid the high price for freedom by placing themselves in harm’s way for the good of all.
