As of 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, there were two active fires happening in Polk County.

Crews have been working to control these blazes.

The NC Forest Service has named these fires – the Black Cove Fire and Deep Woods Fire. Please note that Polk County doesn’t name these fires.

Here is the update from 10:15 p.m. on March 19.

Black Cove Fire has burned 110 acres and is 10% contained.
No structures have been damaged at this time.
There is a voluntary evacuation off of Scarlets Mountain Rd.

Deep Woods Fire has burned 3.5 acres and is 0% contained.
No structures have been damaged at this time.
There is a voluntary evacuation off of Scarlets Mountain Rd.
This fire is located off of Piney Mountain Rd/Holbert Cove Road.
