Date for NCDOT public meeting about Hwy. 9 project announced

Last month there was a post on this site about the NCDOT’s proposed widening, lane, and shoulder improvements of NC 9, between Hwy 108 and US 74, in Mill Spring.

If you missed that post, here it is.

When Andrew Buchanan, who is an Assistant Division Proposal Engineer with NCDOT, met with the Polk County Board of Commissioners recently, the Commissioners asked that NCDOT host another community meeting to bring this information to the public’s opinion.

That meeting has been set. The meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, at Polk Central Elementary School (2141 N.C. 9 in Mill Spring). The meeting will be a time to learn more about the project and ask questions.

The plans for this state-funded project include adding turning lanes for Polk Central Elementary School and replacing seven pipe crossings. The project will widen and improve lanes and shoulders for 2.7 miles on Highway 9 and will enhance safety and improve traffic flow along the corridor.
