Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11 each year. As we get closer to that day of remembrance, we thought it was a good idea for a quick history lesson.

If you’re new to Polk County, you may not know that the local justice and administration building is named for a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.

Private First Class Bryant H. Womack was in the Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He died after valiantly helping aid his fellow soldiers on night combat patrol on Match 12, 1952.

He was later awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism, outstanding courage, and unswerving devotion to his duties.

In 1988 the Bryant H. Womack Justice and Administration Building was dedicated in his honor.

In a hall of the building there is a display to Womack and his memory. Some of the mementos on display can be seen below:
