Helene stormed through Polk County on September 26 and 27, and since then residents have come together to help each other in a number of ways.
Downed trees have been chopped up. Water and meals have been shared. Donations have been distributed.
While helping others has become a norm, residents must also remember to take care of themselves.
As we continue to return to our pre-Helene norm, residents may feel the need to talk to someone about the emotions that we are having due to the devastation, loss of lives, or loss of property.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has a Disaster Distress Helpline that is dedicated to providing year-round disaster crisis counseling.
