The 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week is set for Sunday, October 9, through Saturday, October 15.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) website, “fire safety education isn’t just for school children. Teenagers, adults, and the elderly are also at risk in fires, making it important for every member of the community to take some time every October during Fire Prevention Week to make sure they understand how to stay safe in case of a fire.”
The Fire Prevention Week website has plenty of information about preventing fires. There are also activities for kids of all ages, materials to help educate your community, and videos to share.
Governor Roy Cooper announced last week an order that all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, October 10, in honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day. That day of recognition is Sunday, October 9, but since the holiday falls on a Sunday, flags will be at half-staff on Monday to honor the many firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
