“The Black Cove fire has now burned a total of 2,076 acres and is currently zero percent contained. There is an evacuation in place for the following: 1091 to 1528 Green River Cove Road and all of the properties on Lady Slipper Trail. They are also evacuating on Big Hungry Road, Spurgeon Cove Lane, English Heifer Cove, Deer Trail and Scarlets Mountain Road. The fire is moving towards Henderson County.
“The Deep Woods fired has burned a total of 2,545 acres and is currently zero percent contained. Evacuation order for the North side of 5079 to 7265 Holbert Cove Road and all properties on Fox Paw Lane. The evacuation order in that area remains in place.
“The Fish Hook Fire has burned a total of 199 acres and is 50 percent contained. There is no evacuation for this fire.
“The Polk County Shelter, which is staffed by the American Red Cross, is available at 75 Carmel Lane, Columbus. Although this shelter is not taking pets, if you need to board pets, please contact the Polk County Animal Control at 828-817-7984.
“The Polk County website has fire updates to include press releases and maps for these fires. Visit polknc.gov/fireupdates.
“The fire service has deployed a large incident management team which has increased in size today. They will be providing more information to include daily press releases and maps in the near future. We are grateful for our partnership with the Forest Service.”
