A dredging project at the Lake Adger marina has concluded and plans have been finalized on how Polk County will continue to ensure the lake’s future.

At a recent meeting, the Polk County Board of Commissioners voted to award a contract to Ameri-Con Materials, Inc., that will allow the company access to dredge portions of the Green River and Lake Adger using county-owned land near Lake Adger and the Green River.

The winning bid for the Green River Sand and Gravel Project was $0. The contractor will receive payment during the 10-year agreement through the disposal of the sand and gravel that it dredges.

The county hired Quible & Associates, an environmental planning firm, to develop the request for proposals and Ameri-Con was selected through this process. You can read more about this process here.

Recently, The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission conducted dredging at Lake Adger Marina over the past few months. Lake Adger is used for recreational activities like boating, fishing, and swimming, is more than 430 surface acres and has more than 14 miles of shoreline. The plan was to dredge almost 6,800 cubic yards of material from the lake and do inland placement and habitat creations where the river is already forming deltas. To celebrate the end of the most recent dredging project there will be the Lake Adger Community Celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. This free family-friendly event will include guided kayak tours, fishing demonstrations, music by the PacJAM Clover Pickers, and kids’ activities.
