Lane closures on I-26 have been announced that could affect travel to Polk County from the Asheville area due to ongoing construction in the area.

On Monday (June 27), Tuesday (June 28), and Wednesday (June 29), the eastbound lane of I-26 from Exit 44 to Exit 53 will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. and a detour will be in place.

The detour begins at Exit 44 and follows U.S. 25 South to U.S. 176 to Upward Road to then rejoin I-26 at Exit 53.

The duration of these closures is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., however, the start time will depend on traffic volumes and will be adjusted accordingly. These plans may be altered depending on the weather, the announcement said.
