Improvements at Tom Raymond Fitness Trail to be unveiled, celebrated

New equipment along the Tom Raymond Fitness Trail will be celebrated at an upcoming event.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the trail, which is located near the parking lot behind St. Luke’s Emergency Department.

The Tom Raymond Fitness Trail was constructed in 1990 with funds from a gift from the family of Tom Raymond, St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, Polk County Community Foundation, and in partnership with the Pacolet Area Conservancy (now Conserving Carolina). The memorial walking trail was constructed to serve all members of the community and to be used to promote health and fitness among area residents.

The renovations to the trail include eight new stations, which have been installed with rubber surfacing below each one. These metal stations replace the wood and beam structures that were in place. Each station will have instructions for use and a link to a video. This is part of a multi-year project funded by the Ann Jacob Toms fund at the Polk County Community Foundation.

More improvements are planned, including refinishing the trail surface, installing benches, and replacing the gazebo.

The event on Sept. 9, which will last until 11 a.m., will include fitness equipment demonstrations and other activities.
