Jan. 20 – the day Polk County was reestablished

January 20 has an important place in Polk County’s history, as it was on this day, in 1855 that the county was established. Or, reestablished, as the story goes.

According to polkcounty.org, Polk County was “created, then abolished, and again established.”

The General Assembly recreated Polk County under Chapter 10, Public Laws of 1854-1855, when it was ratified by the General Assembly on January 20, 1855.
