NCDMV moves to all-electronic registration system beginning Oct. 1

Beginning on Oct. 1, NCDMV is moving to an all-electronic registration system, eliminating the requirement for license plate stickers and printed registration cards.

When you register or renew your vehicle or trailers, you will no longer receive a license plate sticker or printed registration.

Vehicle Inspections: Still required. Use your current registration card or mailed renewal notice at the inspection station.

Annual Renewals: Required yearly. Pay on time to avoid late fees and interest. Renew online, by mail, or at a License Plate Agency.

Proof of Registration: After payment, you will receive a receipt.

Printed Copies: If you need a printed copy of your digital registration visit www.NCDMV.gov/Registration. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can get one at a License Plate Agency for a $5 fee.

Law Enforcement can access your vehicle’s registration through their existing electronic verification system.
