A local, second-generation farmer has earned North Carolina Farm Bureau’s Achievement Award for 2022.
Polk County’s Sofia Lilly, who is a farmer and winemaker at Overmountain Vineyards, was recently recognized at the Polk County Board of Commissioners meeting for this award, which was given to her for “building a successful farm and being an avid advocate for agriculture.”
According to a press release, the Achievement Award recognizes farmers between 18 and 35 years of age who are involved in North Carolina Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Rangers Program and “whose farm practices are judged to be the most outstanding in production efficiency, innovation, improvement, and environmental stewardship.”
Lilly will accept the honor during a ceremony at part of North Carolina Farm Bureau’s 87th annual convention, Dec. 4-6, in Greensboro. She is also in the national competition for American Farm Bureau Federation’s Achievement Award, which will be handed out in early 2023.
