Polk County Historical Association Museum highlights Saluda’s 140th birthday

Earlier this month, Saluda celebrated its 140th birthday. Polk County’s only mountain town was incorporated on Feb. 1, 1881.

The City of Saluda has a rich and varied history, much of which was tied to its connection to the railroad and the Saluda Grade.

This photo of Saluda’s train depot in the 1920s is part of the Polk County History Museum’s photo collection.

From 1921 to 1959, the Saluda Baby Hospital made a huge difference to young children and infants in the southern region each summer.
