Polk County Local Government notified that independent test at Lake Adger Marina showed high level of E. coli

Polk County Local Government has been notified that an independent test at the Lake Adger Marina has shown an unusually high level of the bacteria Escherichia coli, or E. coli, in the water.

These levels are probably due to the excessive amounts of rain over the past few days.

Because some strains of E. coli can cause illness, Polk County Local Government is sharing this as a precaution for anyone who might be considering swimming in the Lake Adger Marina over the Memorial Day weekend.

Polk County will be following up with its own testing and will share updates as they become available.

For more about avoiding recreational water illness, visit N.C. Division of Public Health’s page at https://epi.dph.ncdhhs.gov/cd/water/prevent.html.
