Postcards will soon arrive in local mailboxes with the hope to garner more involvement in a survey about the possibility of a YMCA facility in the community.

A committee of volunteers has begun the process of researching the possibility of building a YMCA facility in the county and the survey is an important step in the process. The hope of the survey is to learn the types of programs people would be interested in, identify community needs regarding childcare, and other items.

“This survey is critically important to our committee’s work. Now is your chance to ensure this new facility meets our current and future needs. We need to hear from our residents to better inform our decisions with respect to the size, location and ultimately the programs offered by our new Polk County YMCA,” said Polk County YMCA Development Committee Chairman Michael Baughman. “What’s most important to you and your family? Swimming Pool? Childcare? A new gym? Something else? Let us hear from you and thanks for your participation and support.”

The committee hopes to garner a response from 20 percent of the households. The committee received more than 1,650 responses in the first week.
