Several months ago, the YMCA Polk Development Committee asked residents to complete a 13-question survey to garner input about possibly building a YMCA in the county.

Results from that survey have been compiled and showcase a wide range of interest in the types of programs that might be offered at a local facility.

More than 3,000 surveys were completed and 84 percent responded of an interest in an indoor pool. Other options that scored high on the survey were Fitness Center with cardio equipment (78.76%), indoor walking and running track (72.05%), and Fitness Classes (69.75%).

Surveys showed that those interested in the indoor pool wanted time for family swimming, water aerobics, lap swimming, and other activities.

Classes like yoga, strength training, and aerobics scored high among families interested in group fitness activities.

There was also an interest in a childcare area, including summer camps. It is worth noting that the YMCA currently serves Polk County already and is currently managing Gibson Park Pool programming and delivering all youth sports programming and summer day camp in two school locations in Polk County this summer.

 The YMCA Polk Development Committee, which was appointed by the Polk County Board of Commissioners, will continue to meet to discuss this potential project.
