Recently, Polk County Emergency Managements partnered with Safe Kids: Rutherford-Polk, Polk County Schools, Polk County Sheriff’s Office and local fire departments to provide bicycle helmets to every third grader enrolled in Polk county Schools.
The helmets were made possible through grants and funds provide from Safe Kids: Rutherford-Polk Coalition, Rutherford Outdoor Coalition, and Active Routes to Schools.
During this event, which occurred between May 7-13 and May 18, 174 helmets were distributed to students at Polk Central Elementary, Saluda Elementary, Sunny View Elementary, Tryon Elementary, and the Seventh Day Adventist Church School.
“We are proud to have been able to provide these helmets to students free of charge as a part of our newly-formed, county-wide risk-reduction program,” said Polk County Emergency Management Director/Fire Marshal Bobby Arledge. “If you are interested in participating in this program or if you have any questions, contact Polk County Emergency Management.”
