Volunteers for trail maintenance needed

If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to volunteer more, or if you’ve always wanted to help your community, there are several upcoming chances through the Polk County Parks, Recreation, and Maintenance department.

The department will host trail work days throughout January from 1 to 3 p.m. on Fridays.

Here’s the schedule:

January 6 – Tom Raymond Fitness Trail

January 13 – Alexander Ford

January 20 – ICC Library Loop

January 27 – Recreation Complex

If you would like to help with trail work, please Polk County Parks, Recreation, and Maintenance here (lbaird@polknc.org) or call 828-894-8199.

If you’d rather work on your own, feel free to walk a trail, picking up trash and moving small branches from the trails. Please don’t cut any branches; if a trail needs more attention, email trails@polknc.org and the department will take care of it or bring it to that trail manager’s attention.
