Safety has been a concern at Big Bradley Falls and work is progressing there that will help to safeguard against future incidents.

N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission Chief Engineer Gary Gardner recently spoke to the Polk County Board of Commissioners about work being done near the waterfall.

Several years ago, the Commissioners issued a resolution to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission to “use any and all means necessary to ensure the safety of citizens and visitors to the Bradley Falls area.”

Work began in February to build a safe stair access to the overlook and to add a platform and knee wall for safety. Improvements to the trail leading to the overlook are also being made.

The site has been closed during construction and work should be completed by June, Gardner said.
